After the last guests had left and the party service had packed everything up again, Cora just wanted to go to bed and sleep for the next three days. Angela was very interested in her, asked all kinds of questions like a reporter. She wasnât in the least shocked when she found out about her connection to the social elite of Russlow. Instead she only asked about her interests, plans for the future, etc. Aiden had stayed by her side the entire time. It had been heaven.
Since the guests had left though he had changed completely. No more holding hands, no more arm casually wrapped around her waist, no more random kisses on the temple or top of her head. He had simply headed up the stairs after making sure all the doors were properly locked.
The act was over.
Now she stood by the door of their bedroom and stared at her pillow and blanket on the left side of his bed. The bond had calmed down over the last couple of days. They didnât have to stay close anymore. Was she still allowed to though?
âWhat?â he asked as he took off his watch to place it on his nightstand. His other hand rubbed the center of his chest. Had the bond snitched on her?
âWe donât have to sleep in the same bed anymore,â Cora replied in a small voice. She didnât want to move out of their bedroom but maybe he did.
âIâm too tired for this conversation. Come to bed,â he grumbled and furrowed his brows before he stood up.
Cora cast her eyes down and pulled her shoulders up. âI didnât want to assume. Iââ
Aiden cut her off by placing his hands on her upper arms.
She looked up and her heart skipped a beat. Something had changed between them. Being this close to him, wrapped in his scent, and feeling his warmth gave her a sense of home.
âGo to bed, omega. We can discuss anything further tomorrow morning,â he whispered and stroked his hands up and down her arms. It was a small gesture that had a big impact on her.
Time stood still between them. For a moment Cora considered getting up on her toes to kiss him but she didnât want to go too far. He suddenly let go of her and cleared his throat.
âIâm going to get ready for bed now.â
âOkay,â she whispered and headed to her bedroom to change into her nightwear. When she returned, Aiden was already in bed scrolling through his phone. He put it aside as soon as she had slid into bed by his side.
All the previous nights she had turned her back toward him. Tonight she wanted to face him.
âIt was nice meeting your mother,â she said as she snuggled into her pillow.
âIt was definitely better than meeting my father.â
Cora smirked into her cheek and watched him in the warm glow of the bedside lamp.
âWe were pretty convincing,â he murmured. Cora stared at his shoulder. It looked very comfortable. She could just shuffle a little closer and cuddle into him.
